{"id":1717,"date":"2013-04-30T11:02:54","date_gmt":"2013-04-30T18:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenhopeessences.com\/wordpress\/?p=1717"},"modified":"2013-04-30T11:02:54","modified_gmt":"2013-04-30T18:02:54","slug":"ramps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.greenhopeessences.com\/?p=1717","title":{"rendered":"Ramps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At lunch today we went up into the nearby hills to collect Wild Leeks also known as Ramps. <\/p>\n<p>After fruitlessly searching marshy lowland spots for Ramps for many years, I stumbled on this immense colony during a random lunchtime walk one spring day. Until that moment,  I didn&#8217;t realize that these moisture loving plants might find happiness in ledgey wet pools on top of a hill- yet there they were as far as the eye could see in big gorgeous clumps of aromatic glory. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenhopeessences.com\/wordpress\/wp-contents\/upload\/2013\/04\/img-7573.jpg\" height=\"384\" width=\"512\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"IMG_7573\" title=\"IMG_7573\" \/><br \/>\nAll the green in the distance are Ramps.  Somehow the photo doesn&#8217;t do the scene justice.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Ben suggested we go up and see if the Ramps were big enough to be harvested. Since they were, we collected enough for him to pickle up a quart. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenhopeessences.com\/wordpress\/wp-contents\/upload\/2013\/04\/getattachment-1aspx.jpg\" height=\"319\" width=\"238\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"GetAttachment-1.aspx\" title=\"GetAttachment-1.aspx\" \/><br \/>\nRamp season is a short one of only a week or two so we set right off today for more. Laura, Thembi, Lizzy and baby Grace went on this second expedition as everyone wanted some after seeing Ben&#8217;s harvest yesterday.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenhopeessences.com\/wordpress\/wp-contents\/upload\/2013\/04\/img-7575.jpg\" height=\"448\" width=\"336\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"IMG_7575\" title=\"IMG_7575\" \/><br \/>\nAs I noted to Laura, I only have pictures of her shoveling. She seemed to like this identity as the muscle of every task! In this photo you get more of a sense of exactly how many Ramps there are on this hilltop.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenhopeessences.com\/wordpress\/wp-contents\/upload\/2013\/04\/img-7577.jpg\" height=\"480\" width=\"360\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"IMG_7577\" title=\"IMG_7577\" \/><br \/>\nGrace continues to like her role as supervisor of all she surveys.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenhopeessences.com\/wordpress\/wp-contents\/upload\/2013\/04\/img-7581.jpg\" height=\"408\" width=\"544\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"IMG_7581\" title=\"IMG_7581\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thembi holds the full trug.
